Florida panther dies after fight with another panther

Naples Daily News reported earlier this week that a Florida panther was found dead— and was likely killed by another panther.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission stated that the 8-and-a-half-year-old female’s carcass was found in the Golden Gate Estates in Collier County. Her remains will be taken to a facility for a necropsy.

A total of 31 Florida panthers have been found dead in 2016— 23 due to road fatalities.

Only about 180 of the big cats remain in the wild. Florida panthers once roamed the entire southeastern United States.
